His subject matter incorporates flowers, birds and butterflies in some of his still life compositions, with skyscrapers to dog walkers for his urban landscapes and his human representations cover music, dancing and a wide range of sporting activities from the track and field, to swimming and skiing, all of which are recreated into his unique style of artwork, expressing his warm relationship and deep involvement with the images he creates.
His work is part of the permanent indoor and outdoor collections at various museums in Israel and Jerusalem and in 1999, Gerstein was selected to exhibit in Washington DC at the national Jewish museums exhibition "Israel at 50".
In addition to the UK, David Gerstein is represented in Germany, France, Spain, Israel, Brazil, Venezuela, New Zealand and USA.
The Berkeley Gallery currently displays Gerstein's artwork in the form of limited edition wall sculptures and screen printed small steel objects.
